#1.Can we help the elderly to quit smoking so that they will be healthier?
We can go around with volunteers to persuade smoking elderly's to stop smoking by explaining the harmful effects of smoking and maybe even get their relatives to help out too.
#2.How can they contribute to our society?
They can form a group in the community club to prepare nutritious breakfast for working adults so they can have their
breakfast and not be late for work.
#3.How can we help the sick ones?
We can install cameras around so if a sick elderly meets with a mishap or an accident,people can rush to their aid. Or we can help them hire a maid so that the maid can assist the elderly.

You might want to take a relook at some of your questions and see how we would be able to help them more effectively. Some perception might also need to be changed over here, as the significant majority of the elderly are still able to take care of themselves.
